Lately Hyaena Gallery has gone through some difficult changes but I’m trying to just keep a neutral stance due to the situation. Everyone involved in these recent changes are friends of mine, and I refuse to choose sides. I am no stranger to speaking my mind and choosing a point of view, but in this case my hands are clean. I was not personally there when recent incidents occurred, so I feel that I should not base my opinions off word of mouth from various people. Hyaena Gallery single handedly started my art career and helped me afford the medical attention I needed in 2007. I will always support them and encourage them to be ground-breaking, the way they supported me to “turn the physical pain into art”. As well, I will always support any artists who make the decision to leave the gallery. My love and support goes out to everyone

Less than 3 weeks til my show. It’s gotten alot of positive attention so far, and I’m very excited to see all my friends, fans, and fellow artists during reception night. My sister will even be attending the show, coming from northern california. I haven’t seen her in over a year, so it will be a nice treat to have her visitng. The final stretch before a big show is always the toughest. I just hope that those who support and encourage me are there for me even more so now, and understand that I have to devote my time to my work, and get the pieces I want finished. This show means alot to me; expressing all that I felt and survived through during the toughest times of my illness. I really don’t care about any money I will make from this show, I did this show for me. It is my way of getting an eleven month story off my chest, without using any words.

Hope to see you there!

Original Spinestealer piece up for auction. Make sure to go and check out all of the art donated to this good cause!
New sketch today:

(it’s untitled)
Also, I bought molding supplies today so I will be able to make more figures soon. I already have a few designs in mind for the basic shape. Keep your eyes peeled o_o
Lately alot of my pieces have involved creatures displaying impressive wings. I try to stray from cliche things like wings, hearts, stars, etc. But there’s no real way to escape from the images we first learn to draw as toddlers. Maybe my creatures are just slightly more hopeful. Maybe now they can fly. Even in their miserable state of despair, maybe they are being healed. Maybe I’ve gained the power to heal myself.
There’s been a couple of shows in the Sacramento area that I’ve donated work to for the benefit of raising money for animal shelters. I have a heart piece being auctioned for “Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary”. If you are in the area please attend the auction and help raise some money for animals in need.
The Second Saturday Art Show & Reception for “Painting for Paws” will be held on June 14, from 6 pm – 9 pm at Little Real Estate/Union Vacations on the corner of 42nd & H Streets in East Sacramento.
I’ve been working so hard for my Hyaena solo show, and it’s really paying off. My best pieces will be in this show. Some playful and melancholy, others just down right disturbing. I hope that those who can attend, do. I’m very excited

Sorry for the lack of updates. In preparation for my solo show at Hyaena in July, I’ve stopped booking shows. I usually do 2-3 shows a month, but now it will be limited to Club Hell which is on the last wednesday of every month. I’m still occasionaly selling original drawings through myspace so that I can pay for art supplies, but I don’t post them here because it takes a considerable amount of time to post on this website, and the pieces usually sell quickly anyways. Add my myspace (myspace.com/spinestealer) for better updates on available work.
I’ve been so busy working my day job, then working on art, and then working my third job. I’m exhausted. If I can just make it to July, things should slow down and I can begin to focus on different projects.
Also, since my move, I closed my P.O. box and I won’t be able to receive traditional mail for a while.
Thanks for all the support! I hope you all come out to my show in July!
So I was first introduced to Valery’s work through Hyaena Gallery. I’m constantly checking out Hyaena’s website for show appearance updates, new artists, and available work (most of which I just look at in longing because I’m broke :P). Several months back I noticed an artist I’d never heard of, Valery Milovic, and immediately went to her website to find THE MOST ENORMOUS THUMBNAIL GALLERY I EVER DID SEE. Her gallery is full of beautifully composed pieces that represent the human condition through characters such as Octogirl, Patchwork bunny, and many more. I anticipated her solo show at Hyaena for the next few months, and was so happy to meet this wonderful being in person. My favorite of her recent pieces “Ratzilla” is still available at Hyaena Gallery
